Marek Tobolewski

Between 13th April and 21st May, we are delighted to host the work of Marek Tobolewski as we fulfil our commitment to creativity as a key strand in our community vision at Next Door Hextable. The Private View was held on Wednesday 13th of April. All the works on show are detailed here, and any purchase enquiries are best directed to Sue Haward: by email at office@stph.org.uk

We are glad to welcome Marek as the first of many artists over the coming months and years.

Marek Tobolewski (born 1964, Bishops Stortford) is a resident artist at Primary, Nottingham. His artistic practice deals with both the formal process of abstraction in painting today and its historical continuity. A constant across all his work is the linear thread of connecting arcs of a circle, forever evolving and in endless reinvention.

Tobolewski continually returns to existing works, adjusting structures and refining each individual flow of a line in an attempt to reveal a balance within movement. His most recent work in the ongoing Continuum series has been concerned with symmetry and reflection. Rotating and mirroring, these linear forms incorporate portals.

Tobolewski is a recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award, and his works are in private, public, corporate and civic collections. He has created several large scale commissions, most notably the 5-metre triptych for University of Nottingham Djanogly Recital Hall.

Andrew Cooper-NVA Ed writes: "Marek Tobolewski'’s work continues to entrance and mystify... CiS is the most impressive show of Tobolewski’s I have ever seen ... his artistic practice seems to be a never-ceasing journey along a single path, continually striving for new insights and perfections."
